Introduction

At True North Log & Timber Homes, the strength of our homes lies not only in our craftsmanship but also in the foundation of family values that support every beam and board. Behind our award-winning designs and cutting-edge building systems is a close-knit family with a shared passion for excellence, innovation, and creating spaces that truly feel like home.

A Vision Rooted in Family

Founded in 1986, True North began as a dream shared by a father and son—Ron and Rob Wrightman. Ron, a true entrepreneur and inventor with over 11 Canadian and US patents to his name, was the first person to combine tongue-and-groove with dovetail corners in a mass timber system.

Together, Ron and Rob set out to create homes crafted with care, built to last, and rooted in tradition. With a background in custom home building and a deep appreciation for natural materials, they combined old-world craftsmanship with new-world technology to revolutionize the log and timber home industry.

“My grandfather was truly a pioneer. When he created our log technology, it was unlike anything ever done before. He began by understanding the characteristics of how a traditional log home evolved over time—where the wood shrunk, where the joints opened and leaked air. More importantly, he wanted to understand why these changes occurred. This is where the True North philosophy was born: how do we develop technology that uses mother nature’s law—that wood loses moisture over time—to our advantage, instead of trying to fight it as the rest of the industry attempts. This is a testament to my grandfather’s innovative mind, which never stopped in the pursuit of providing the most maintenance-free log home in the world.” – Co-Owner, Kyle R. Wrightman reflecting Ron Wrightman, one of the Co-Founders of True North Log & Timber Homes.

After Ron retired in 1996, Rob carried on the family mission—continuing to build log homes and developing smarter ways of doing so. Under Rob’s leadership, True North grew substantially — expanding its sales network internationally and winning the Global Innovation Award from the National Association of Home Builders. Ultimately, Rob never stopped asking himself “How can we make this better?”. Rob chased the family spirit of innovation and developed a further 11 Canadian and US patents.

The Next Generation

Over the years, True North Log & Timber Homes has grown to a reputable international company, while remaining a proudly family-owned and operated business. In 2020, Rob’s sons Mark and Kyle Wrightman successfully acquired the business. Immersed in True North since childhood, Mark and Kyle have worked in every aspect, from component pre-packaging to building log homes, to working as Sales & Design Consultants. On top of working for True North, Mark attended school for Construction Technology and Business Marketing, while Kyle focused heavily on Business Administration.

Today, Kyle and Mark continue to lead the company with the same dedication that inspired its founding. Their deep understanding of the industry, eye for detail, and relentless pursuit of excellence are the driving forces behind True North’s reputation as a global leader in precision-crafted log and timber homes.

Now that the third generation of Wrightman’s have stepped into leadership roles, they have brought fresh perspectives while upholding the family’s core values. Their involvement ensures that the traditions of craftsmanship and client care continue, while also embracing innovation and sustainability.

For the Wrightmans, True North isn’t just a company—it’s a legacy. Every home reflects the care and pride they put into their work. Their family philosophy of innovation and care extends to each aspect of every home.
